For practical lab work regarding network engineering, students have access to several laboratories and computer pools with routed and switches networks.
In addition to these, there is also a comprehensive virtual experiment environment, which has been optimised for network analyses. Other facilities include various Cisco systems devices, such as routers, intermediate system (IS) routers, and switches.
Analysing mesh/ad-hoc/infrastructure Wi-Fi networks requires special nodes and analysers. The lab environment also features a backend network used solely for experiments, providing the necessary server services. All host computers run both Linux and WindowsXX.
More labs, with individual backend systems and other special equipment are available for R&D work. Access is granted to the respective project group members.
Key areas are:
- routing & switching
- security and optimisation of services (QoS)
